The Best Find at Texas Thrift - San Antonio

There is nothing more fulfilling than creating something with your own hands! My children hates it when they ask me to buy something and I respond, “Oh don’t worry, I can make that for you.” This is something I learned from my mother. So now that they are at the age of moving out of our home, I can definitely say more often, “I can do that for you!”
After my son’s basic training at Fort Sill, he was sent to AIT in San Antonio. A few months later, his family followed him from Los Angeles. Of course, I wanted to be part of the action so my husband and I flew with the grandkids while his wife drove to help out with the styling of their new home (see previous post).

My thrift shop nabs
I have been a stickler for budgets therefore, thrift shops and discount stores were on the top my list. In my search for a few frames to re-do for my son’s home styling, we picked up a few large frames from a thrift store cleverly named Texas Thrift to repaint and to change out the old artwork with either photos or kids school art as well as to repurpose as trays for vignettes. We got as far as using some in the kitchen and the bathroom but due to lack of time, I didn’t get to the larger frames.
And thankfully, I didn’t touch the three larger frames, because while waiting for our flight back home, I curiously searched online for anything similar to the thrifted frames. Of course I expected to find some, I just did not expect those exact frames to be so highly valued. It turned out that I thrifted 1976 Franklin mint sterling silver ship silhouettes. Back in 2012, the auction house Bonhams had valued the four set as https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19678/lot/3369/
Recent eBay listings show the prices upwards from $99 to about $600.

So now, on my next trip to San Antonio, I can pretty much say, “I flew for free!” All I have to do is clean and restore the two frames then post it on eBay.
